Tolan Shaw Releases New Single and First Music Video Just in Time for Summer
May 25 2014
Encinitas native, and Indie Artist and Songwriter, Tolan Shaw, is releasing his newest studio single, “Be My Girl,” just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer. Shaw, who won first place as the Best Singer-Songwriter at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar last summer, is best known as a member of the New Archaic. A follow up to the release of his self-titled debut CD last June, “Be My Girl,” is Shaw’s latest solo effort, produced by San Diego based producer Marti Amado.
“Be My Girl,” is written, whistled and sung by Tolan Shaw, and arranged by Marti Amado, Tolan Shaw and the Tolan Shaw Band. The upbeat, infectious tune also features Shaw on guitars, David Yuter on backing vocals (with Shaw) and keys, Tyler Olsen on drums, Ben Moore on organ and Andre De Santanna on bass. Drums were tracked by Daniel Bourget at Studio West, other instruments and vocals tracked and edited by Ben Moore at Singing Serpent Studios. The tune was mixed by Andre De Santanna at DeSantanna Studios.
“Tolan came to me and wanted to produce this tune in a way that was really pop and really radio friendly,” says Amado. “So that’s what we went for and based on the feedback we are getting from radio folks that’s what I think we achieved!” she says. “Tolan’s got a fantastic voice and he really delivered a fun tune and a great vocal performance, ” she adds.
“Marti really knows how to get the best takes out of singers, and how to create the best vocal performance for a song,” says Shaw. “Plus she’s just got a great ear for a track and what it needs — she just does excellent work.” The music video for “Be My Girl” was directed by David Brooks and is the first music video release from Shaw.
Shaw’s next show is Sunday, July 6 at Belly Up at 8:00 pm.
